40 Things to Declutter Before You List Your House.

We've photographed hundreds and homes and no matter what the price of the home is (yes, even multi million dollar homes), sellers continue to make these simple mistakes. Sellers believe that buyers will look past these things - BUT THEY WON'T.

Buyers want to envisage how their life will look in the space. Not how you're living in it.

With that said, here are 40 things to declutter before your first showing, because clutter doesn't just take up space... it repels offers:

  1. Family photos
  2. Pet beds, bowls + toys
  3. Shoes by the door
  4. Coats on chairs or railings
  5. Fridge magnets + papers
  6. Holiday decor (yes, even cute pumpkins)
  7. Toys in living areas
  8. Toothbrushes + floss on counters
  9. Shampoo bottles in the shower
  10. Floor mats that don't match
  11. Paper piles or mail stacks
  12. Chargers + random cords
  13. Keys and wallets on counters
  14. Cleaning supplies in view
  15. Makeup + hair tools
  16. Visible laundry baskets
  17. Excess throw pillows
  18. Blankets not styled or folded
  19. Extra chairs or stools
  20. Overloaded bookshelves
  21. Used candles
  22. Junk drawer clutter
  23. Magazines + catalogs
  24. Expired pantry food
  25. Overfilled closets
  26. Laundry room chaos
  27. Air fresheners + plug-ins
  28. Knick-knacks with no purpose
  29. Workout gear lying around
  30. Bold art that distracts
  31. Toy bins with missing lids
  32. Unmade beds (yes, that counts!)
  33. Personal notes or reminders
  34. Dishes in the sink
  35. Full trash cans
  36. Excess rugs in small spaces
  37. Pet odors or litter boxes
  38. Unused kitchen appliances
  39. Bath mats that look tired
  40. Anything broken, frayed, or dusty

Why it sells homes faster? A clutter-free space tells buyers: "This home is well-loved, well-maintained, and move-in ready"
